Good Sunday evening, all of you aspirants for personal and business progress. I thought that it might be helpful to offer just a tidbit of motivation on the day I consider as a special celebration of the Lord’s days. Hopefully, we all can remain vigilant concerning our personal surroundings, that is, our cultural and social environment. And in doing so, that we do not allow our current or past situation, or our friends and relatives to define who we are or what our future is to be.
It can become easy to relax into those boxes of confinement and conformity which have become acceptable to everyone else around us. My word of encouragement to all agrees with the Apostle Paul to ” be not conformed, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind”. None of us can pick and choose our families that we were born into; and having been destined to be a part of our particular family, we should try our best to love and respect them. However, if we are to move along the path of personal fulfillment and good success, we should learn how to regulate our associations. Remembering the old proverb ” iron sharpens iron”, our purposes are best achieved when we select friends and associations who are stimulating and enthusiastic about traveling the path of personal progress.
Our goal ought to be clear about who we are. There is an Old Testament text which says, ” And the Lord shall make thee the head, and not the tail; and thou shall be above only, and thou shall not be beneath”. As we assume and appropriate this posture, we can be sure, as we follow God’s leading, that He will bless the works of our hands. Do not allow the past, your present, nor your associations to confine you in inactivity. Get up, get busy in the things and with the people who are productive, and see the goodness which God has prepared for you.
